The role of smart grids in Germany

While Germany is considered a leader in biomass, solar, and wind, it sorely lags behind in a number of related areas, such as smart grids. Almost no near real-time power rates are offered, few smart meters have been installed, and the market is not designed to produce these changes. Today, Renewables International presents a previously unpublished study completed in November by German energy expert Marian Bichler, who provides an excellent overview of what has been done up to now, what is being discussed, and why proponents of renewables need to get involved.
